Just Us Girls #834 -- CASE A DT Week

Join us! It is CASE A DT week at Just Us GirlsCarol is challenging us to choose one of the DT members' cards and CASE it.   CASE a Design Team [DT] member means you may CASE any DT member's card in the JUGS post. [CASE = copy & share everything].  In a nutshell, use what inspires you from the card you choose, and create your own. There is a wide selection from what the Team has created, using anything goes for their creations.

If you need help in learning how to CASE a card, please check out Ardyth's post on her LIMES method.  CASEing others' work is a powerful learning tool that helps you solidify your own style.

For my card, I returned to my favorite technique... inlay dies.  I used a gorgeous peacock background and selected deep, cool colors. The small bright blue piece in the center of each "feather" is actually layered, not inlaid, giving the card a bit of dimension. The sentiment is die-cut from a new alphabet set and lined up using an alignment tool from the Greetery.  The final touch was a few gold glitter dots.  I love this type of inlay card because there is no waste. I used four colored A2 panels, yielding 4 duplicate cards in alternating colors. The final panels were trimmed to gain clean edges and mounted on a black card base.

Also, check out the design team.  These ladies work hard to inspire you each week.  Drop by their blogs and leave them a little love.

Enjoy!  I am looking forward to your inspired creations in the gallery.

Just Us Girls #833 -- Anything Goes STENCIL Week

Join us! It is STENCIL week at Just Us GirlsSue is challenging us to use a stencil in our card creations.  This week, I used a Pinkfresh stencil and die combination.  This is one of Pinkfresh's "triangle" stencils, which makes lining up the image for every color and die-cutting easier.  I layered the die-cut image three times with white cardstock.  A mistake. I would have loved to back the layered image with colored cardstock, maybe another shade of green, but the white edges of the die-cut layers were distracting.  So I embossed the card front with an impression plate, mounted the layered image and a simple die-cut sentiment. The final touch was a few glitter dots.  This card was fairly intensive to make, so I only made four duplicates for donation.

Just Us Girls #832 -- MOODBOARD Week

Join us! It is MOODBOARD week at Just Us GirlsBobby is challenging us to take inspiration from the picture above.   This week, I am incorporating shells into my card. I decided to play with my Glimmer (a Christmas present) and use a new Hero Arts plate. This plate is gorgeous all by itself.  I used silver foil on Stardream navy cardstock.  Stardream is a metallic cardstock which I have used for years but tend to hoard a bit. To finish, I added a layered sentiment on vellum and a few clear drops. I made a dozen for donation.

Just Us Girls #831 -- WORD Week

Join us! It is
WORD week at Just Us GirlsThe Paper Players.  Vicki is challenging us to be inspired by the word PLAY.   T
he card above was triggered by the card below.

I make so many cards for different organizations that I try to use every "fun" item I come across. The front of the card below is from a used US stamp sheet featuring Elvis.  The back was slick in order to hold stamps, but covering it with Scortape made it easy to apply to a card base. I added a white embossed sentiment and a few glittery stars. Fun, right?

It occurred to me that Elvis was "playing" a guitar. This thought led me to playing records! I used to have 100s of albums and loved to play records. The turntable dies are from the now-gone My Favorite Things (as are the other elements of the card). I used glossy black cardstock for the record, and a scrap of fun DSP for the album label. A simple stamped sentiment and a few more glittery stars finish the card.  I made 6 duplicates for donation.

Just Us Girls #830 -- DIE Week

Join us! It is DIE week at Just Us GirlsIna is challenging us to use a FORGOTTEN FAVORITE.   This week, I used a wonderful die set from Concord & 9th. These dies were intended for Christmas, but I found they work for anything with the right sentiment. This set is excellent for scraps! Every once in a while, I just need to clean out the scrap basket. I keep every scrap larger than 1x1 inch. The sentiment is simply stamped and fussy cut (remember fussy cutting?). The final gem was a trio of miscellaneous gems. I made a dozen for donation (so easy!).

Just Us Girls #829 -- Anything Goes STENCIL Week

Join us! It is
STENCIL week at Just Us Girls.  Lisa is challenging us to create anything with a stencil.
This week, I am using a Simon Hurley layering stencil featuring yummy strawberries.  I couldn't resist when I first saw this stencil.  Easy stencil, but it has one flaw.  The leaves over the top of the berries have to be stenciled several times to ensure the "green" shows through the red berries.  So easy that I made a dozen for donation.  To finish, embossed the edges of the card, added a layered, vellum-backed sentiment, and several pearls.

Just Us Girls #828 -- MOODBOARD Week

Join us! It is MOODBOARD week at Just Us GirlsDenise, our newest teammate, is challenging us to take inspiration from this wonderful array of flowers.   This week, incorporate the colors, the variety, the flowers(!) into your cards.

With all the colors, I didn't know what colors to choose. So I turned to my very handy Color Cube, and selected a few cards which included the colors above.  I settled on card 242 below, and used the colors listed.

The cover die is new from A Pocketful of Happiness... and perfect for inlay!  I chose papers that match the first five colors and used black for the background.  I die cut the cover plate 10 times, once for each primary color (using dry sheets behind each die cut to keep the pieces in place), and five times for the background (discarding the black flowers).  I lined each background with Scortape sheets (double-sided tape) and adhered the backgrounds to the card bases.  Then I just started mixing and matching the flower die-cuts from the primary colors.  With five primary colors, I was able to make five cards quickly.  Each week, all duplicates are donated to "card" causes. To finish, I used gold paint to create dotted circles around the gold center dots.  The sentiment is layered and mounted on vellum.

Just Us Girls #827 -- WORD Week

Join us! It is WORD week at Just Us Girls.  Vicki is challenging us to draw inspiration from the word "SUMMER " in our card creations this week.

SUMMER is a perfect word for someone who lives in South Florida.  I love this summer image by Stampingbella. The oddballs are Copic-colored, framed, and mounted on patterned paper.  The sentiment is stamped on kraft paper; Versamark was used with a sand stamp for texture, and a wave border die cut. I added a small dried starfish for embellishment. (I use these starfish in making resin jewelry.) As always, I made multiples for donation.

Just Us Girls #825 -- ANYTHING GOES STENCIL Week

Join us! It is ANYTHING GOES STENCIL week at Just Us Girls.  Carol Mc is challenging us to use a stencil in our card creations this week.  I am making a cake-themed birthday card for Anything Goes.  I always need birthday cards in my stash.

I truly love layered stencils.  My hand is not as steady as it used to be, and stencils are so forgiving. I selected five colors and worked magic. To finish, I embossed and trimmed the stenciled panel, added it to an embossed card base, added a layered, vellum-backed sentiment, and finished with yellow Stickles for the flames.  So easy. Made a half dozen for donation.

Join us! It is MOODBOARD week at Just Us Girls.  Carol Mc is challenging us to be inspired by the moodboard above in creating our cards this week.

WOW, I love this week's colors: orange, hot pink, and teal.  You can't go wrong with bright. I used a beach ball layering stencil from Spellbinders that requires three colors. To finish, I added a layered sentiment and clear dots. Easy peasy.  I made a half dozen for my donation stash.

Just Us Girls #823 -- WORD Week

Join us! It is WORD week at Just Us Girls.  Lisa is challenging us to draw inspiration from the word FLOWERS in our card creations this week.  "Flowers" is so broad and so wonderful! Who doesn't love making flower-themed cards?

This peony is a wonderful set from Spellbinders.  The outer edges of the peony die serve as a border, which I die cut from gold Mirricard. I die-cut the peony a second time from white cardstock, shading each petal in pink. I backed the die-cut with a dryer sheet to keep the pieces in place, making coloring easier. The sentiment is gold-embossed, die-cut, and mounted with foam tape. Gold dots are the final touch.

Just Us Girls #822 -- DIE Week

Join us! It is DIE week at Just Us Girls.  I am your host, and I am challenging you to make a card using SENTIMENT dies.

Usually, I gravitate toward inlay dies, but this die looked so interesting. I loved the shapes, textures, and color possibilities.  I chose a subtle rainbow palette and die-cut six A2 panels with the shape dies. Fortunately, Concord & 9th included multiples of each shape to speed up die-cutting.  An embossing cover plate is also included in the set.  I embossed six white card bases.  The embossing provides a guideline for where to place the shapes. Alone, the coverplate would make a great background as well. Usually, I line the background panels with 4.25" Scortape, then reinsert all the small pieces...a simple process for inlay.  However, this panel requires each piece to be glued and mounted on the base.  Easy, but a very different process than inlay.

I chose to add gems to each set of four circles.  I love a bit of sparkle. The layered sentiment (die cuts from two different sets) made the backgrounds a birthday greeting.

Just Us Girls #821 -- CASE a DT Week

Join us! It is CASE A DT week at Just Us Girls.  Carol Mc is challenging us to choose one of the DT members' cards and CASE (Copy and Share Everything).

I made a "get well" card for CASE A DT week, inspired by a store-bought card I received from a friend this summer while recovering from surgery.  I embossed a blue gingham card base and started building my soup bowl. I had planned to use all the elements from Trinity's alphabet soup die set, but the bowl was smaller than I wanted.  So I created the bowl "circles" from Hero Arts Infinity Circles. Trinity's peas, peppers, parsley, and alphabet were added in.  The final touch was a silver spoon made from layered Mirricard.

The sentiment is from Waffle Flower.  I made a half dozen cards for donation. Many of my cards are donated to a cancer support group, where it is more appropriate to say "take care" rather than "get well" or "feel better".

Just Us Girls #820 -- ANYTHING GOES STENCIL Week

Join us! It is ANYTHING GOES STENCIL week at Just Us Girls.  Vicki is challenging us to use a stencil in our card creations this week. Anyone who knows me knows I love dogs.  So I couldn't resist this doggone cute dog set from Taylored Expressions. Outlines are stamped, and bodies are stenciled.  To make it more fun, I used the set's accompanying die to cut out the dogs and then pop them up. A second Taylored Expressions set features lots of fun "dog" sentiments like the one above, including my favorite, "from one dog mom to another." Sentiments are stamped as a single set and die-cut with a single die. To finish, I added a pop of color with pink sequin hearts.

I made a set of six for my groomer and dog walker for Christmas, and another set for my personal use.
