The Paper Players PP732 - A Theme Challenge from Jan

Join us! It is THEME week at The Paper Players.  Jan is challenging you to use the theme TRAVEL (think ways to travel and places to travel) in your card creations.  Of course, neutrals are allowed; white, black, gray and kraft.

The sentiment is from a new set by KWerner for Concord & 9th.  All of the sentiments in the "checking in" set are fresh and new.  I decided I wanted to build my travel card around "long distance hug".  I am from the land of snow birds so many of my friends arrive in Florida in October and head back to their primary homes by Easter. The background is just a page from an old travel atlas.  In addition, to the sentiment, I added a few die cut landmarks and mode of transport icons from a Sizzix set.  The card was finished with a couple silver dots.  I made multiples of this card for personal correspondence with friends.

The card above was not my first attempt at a travel card.  Initially, I had the idea of creating a background of travel stamps.  The stamps were a find by a friend of mine at St. Vincent de Paul. I white embossed the sentiment on black cardstock.  After putting four cards together, I decided the cards was too "dark".  I prefer lots of white space, if possible, when I make a card.  I will donate these multiples to Operation Gratitudean organization supporting our Military and first responders letting them know that what they do matters. One of the handmade items they request is handmade cards for their care packages so recipients can write their loved ones.

Check out our design team.  These ladies work hard to inspire you each week.  Drop by their blogs and leave them a little love.

Here's a quick recap of our challenge rules:

1.  Create a new paper project
2.  Upload your creation to your blog with a link back to us and provide a direct link to the post featuring your challenge submission.
3.  Please link your card to no more than four challenges in total.

Enjoy!  I am looking forward to your inspired creations in the gallery.

Elizabeth

What a fun card, Elizabeth! It's a wonderful way to repurpose old maps, atlases and stamps. The sentiment is one I would love to own. What really catches my eye, however, are the die cut landmarks. They are SO cute! Have a fabulous week!

That's a great sentiment and I love that you've re-used a page from the atlas. Thanks for making my travel theme shine. :-)

What a fabulous card, Elizabeth! Using a map for the background is ingenious, and I LOVE the little icons--especially the statue of Liberty! Great place to donate your cards as well!

Elizabeth, both of these cards are fantastic! What a great idea to use an old Atlas! The sentiment is just perfect and those little travel icons made me smile! Very creative!

Both cards are wonderful, Elizabeth! I do like the first one better, maybe because it has all the iconic travel images. However, I'm love the second one too because I love postage stamps. I think that was a great find at the local thrift store.

Elizabeth, such a great sentiment and I love that you used it with the map paper. I also love the addition of the travel-themed elements, too. Fabulous card.

I love that map paper background and the iconic dies are perfect with the bold sentiment - I particularly love Lady Liberty!
